Post Workout

Post-workout shakes are almost always the most important supplement(s) to take if you exercise regularly. Whether you’re lifting, playing a sport, or running, you’re tearing down muscle fibers. These torn muscles need the right nutrients in order to become stronger and recover in a timely manner. The sooner you can give your body recovery-fuel after exercise, the better. 

After 14 years of  working out and experimenting with post-workout shakes, I believe I’ve found the optimal combination.

Orgain Plant-based Protein (1/2 serving – 1 scoop): This protein is super-clean, has a solid taste, and is very affordable (especially for an organic product!). 1 scoop delivers 10.5 g of high quality protein to help rebuild your muscles.

Promix Grass-Fed Collagen Peptides (1 Serving): I discovered the importance and potential benefits of taking collagen peptides a little over a year ago from reading The Bulletproof Diet. Since then it has been a staple supplement for me.

In addition to providing high-grade protein for your muscles, collagen is also beneficial for your skin, connective tissue, and gut. Lately, gut health has become a key focus for industry leaders such as Dr. Rhonda Patrick and Kelly Starrett.

Foam Rollers

Soft-tissue work, foam-rolling, is perhaps the most important aspect of any training program. Especially if you sit for hours everyday. It’s not glamorous, but it’s worth it.


If you can’t properly mobilize, you won’t be able to correctly perform any exercises. So foam-rolling is key for both safety and performance. When done before bed, foam-rolling helps promote faster and deeper sleep.

SPRI’s 36-inch Black Foam Roller is the gold standard for your basic foam-rolling movements. Most gyms now have at least one of these.

 

The Orb is perfect for working on places that cannot be easily reached by a standard foam roller. It also allows you to concentrate on pinpoint problem areas.
