Welcome to MufasaFitness.com’s Resources section, a curated list of the Health and Wellness products I strongly recommend for optimizing your life.
I have tested every recommendation on this page. Many of the resources listed here are critical to maintaining my own health.
Before digging into the awesome resources I know and trust, an important disclosure.
Some of the links below are affiliate links, which means that if you choose to make a purchase, I will earn a commission. This commission comes at no additional cost to you. Please understand that I have experience with all of these companies, and I recommend them because they are helpful and useful, not because of the small commissions I make if you decide to buy something. Please do not spend any money on these products unless you feel you need them or that they will help you achieve your goals.
Post-workout shakes are almost always the most important supplement(s) to take if you exercise regularly. Whether you’re lifting, playing a sport, or running, you’re tearing down muscle fibers. These torn muscles need the right nutrients in order to become stronger and recover in a timely manner. The sooner you can give your body recovery-fuel after exercise, the better.
After 14 years of working out and experimenting with post-workout shakes, I believe I’ve found the optimal combination.
Orgain Plant-based Protein (1/2 serving – 1 scoop): This protein is super-clean, has a solid taste, and is very affordable (especially for an organic product!). 1 scoop delivers 10.5 g of high quality protein to help rebuild your muscles.
Natural Force MCT Oil (1 serving):
Promix Grass-Fed Collagen Peptides (1 Serving): I discovered the importance and potential benefits of taking collagen peptides a little over a year ago from reading The Bulletproof Diet. Since then it has been a staple supplement for me.
In addition to providing high-grade protein for your muscles, collagen is also beneficial for your skin, connective tissue, and gut. Lately, gut health has become a key focus for industry leaders such as Dr. Rhonda Patrick and Kelly Starrett.
If you’re only going to use one protein supplement, I highly recommend you make it this one.
If you can’t properly mobilize, you won’t be able to correctly perform any exercises. So foam-rolling is key for both safety and performance. When done before bed, foam-rolling helps promote faster and deeper sleep.
SPRI’s 36-inch Black Foam Roller is the gold standard for your basic foam-rolling movements. Most gyms now have at least one of these.
The Orb is perfect for working on places that cannot be easily reached by a standard foam roller. It also allows you to concentrate on pinpoint problem areas.
As it can and should be utilized every day to improve mobility and prevent injury, The Orb is worth its weight in gold. On Jupiter.
A quality BCAA product is the cornerstone of any supplement regime. In fact, I’m drinking this mixed with black coffee as I type this.
Why this BCAA product?
It has no color, sweeteners, or flavor, which makes it extremely versatile.
Scivation is highly recommended by Dom D’Agostino, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, a Senior Research Scientist at the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC), and an athlete who has also deadlifted 500 pounds for 10 reps after a seven-day fast.
If you’re looking for a flavored powder to mix with water, I recommend Xtend Free BCCAs. No artificial sweeteners, colors, or flavors. Super-clean and (the mixed berry flavor, at least) tastes great.
Probiotics are another staple.
80% of your immune system is located in your gut. Furthermore, recent research indicates that the gut may be your “second brain,” contributing to your overall intelligence.
Probiotics help to keep your gut running optimally by feeding it beneficial bacteria. Like fish oil, probiotic products should be refrigerated at all times. We use Ultimate Flora 50 Billion because it has ten different strands of beneficial bacteria to help keep our GI tracts healthy.
Fish oil supplements are vital for most people on a Western diet. Fish oil promotes heart health, brain function, eye health, and joint function.
WHC UnoCardio 1000 tested the highest out of dozens of fish oil products in a recent third party test.
This product also provides 1000 IU of vitamin D-3, an essential vitamin for many important bodily functions.
Fish oil should be refrigerated to preserve the product’s integrity and prevent oxidization.
BECOMING A SUPPLE LEOPARD
This is required reading for any personal trainer serious about helping their clients. If you buy one book for improving your fitness IQ, make it this one.
Complete with color HD photos, BECOMING A SUPPLE LEOPARD is engaging, easy to understand, and the most helpful guide on learning about how your body moves.
Kelly Starrett is perhaps the most respected authority on human mobility. This is his ultimate manifesto.
